Hi, and welcome, my name is Greg and I'm in the Lawn Care Business.

On this site my goal is to provide you with the most straightforward information regarding Grass, that key ingredient in your lawn care play book is my goal.

The types of grass that makes up your lawn varies from climate zone to climate zone. (Large regions of soil types and weather conditions)

There are two teams when it comes to grass types, the warm season of grasses and the cool season of grasses.

The warm season team is made up of Bermudagrass, Zoyiagrass, St. Augustine grass, Bahaigrass, as well as Buffalograss. They are found in warm climates were the temperatures are quite high most of the time (25 C - 35 C degrees or 77 F - 105 F).

They have one continuous growing period beginning in the spring and lasting through summer. During cooler months, they go dormant usually turning light brown.

Their strengths are an ability to withstand drought and high summer temperatures. Their weaknesses are temperatures below -15 C degrees, which will kill most of these types of grasses.

The cool season team is made up of Bluegrass, Bentgrass, Ryegrass, Fescues, as well as Gramagrass. They are found in cooler climates were summers are mild/cool most of the time (10 C - 25 C degrees or 50 F - 77 F).

They have two periods of growth, one in the spring the other in the fall. They keep their color even during extreme cold. Their strength is the ability to survive extreme cold temperatures for an extended period of time.

Their weakness is prolonged periods of drought which will often cause them to become dormant or even it may even kill them.

It is these grasses that make up the lawn where you live, but what exactly is a lawn? Well a lawn is an area of planted grass that is cared for and is kept mowed at a low an even height.

A lawn may vary widely in size and shape, it may be a park used for recreation, an area surrounding a home as part of its landscape or even as surface on which sporting events are played.

No matter what the size or its use all lawns need basic care to keep them healthy and beautiful.

In order to keep things simple and doable I’ve tried to simplify the lawn care playbook into five basic areas.

The first area is "Do It Yourself Lawn Care" which will cover basic methods in caring for your lawn and to keep it in good shape. As in life there are many outside forces playing against our lawns that need to be discussed and is done so in the lawn care problems part of the play book.

Next, I wouldn’t be a coach if I didn’t’ pass along information regarding weather and global warming that has a great effect on our lawns.

After you begin learning this key information you’re going to want to get out there and do the work, but everyone needs the proper tools to get the job done so we must get you ready by discussing lawn care equipment to make sure we’re all on the same page.
